History of the international workers day (May day )

The Workers' Day, also known as May Day or International Workers' Day, is a celebration of the labor movement and the contributions of workers around the world. The history of Workers' Day dates back to the late 19th century when labor activists in the United States and Europe fought for better working conditions, fair wages, and an eight-hour workday.

The first Workers' Day was celebrated on May 1, 1886, in Chicago, USA. On that day, workers went on strike to demand an eight-hour workday, and rallies were held in several cities across the country. However, the protests turned violent when a bomb exploded during a rally in Haymarket Square, killing several people and injuring many more.

Despite the violence, the movement for workers' rights continued to grow, and Workers' Day became an annual event. In 1889, the International Socialist Congress declared May 1st as International Workers' Day to commemorate the Haymarket affair and promote workers' rights around the world.

Over the years, Workers' Day has been marked by protests, rallies, and demonstrations by labor unions, socialist and communist parties, and other organizations advocating for workers' rights. Today, Workers' Day is recognized as a public holiday in many countries, including Russia, China, Cuba, and several countries in Europe and Latin America.

May 1st is recognized as a public holiday and celebrated as the Workers' Day in more than 80 countries worldwide, including Nigeria,  Russia, China, India, Brazil, Mexico, and most countries in Europe and Latin America.

In some countries, such as the United States and Canada, the first Monday in September is celebrated as Labor Day, which also honors the contributions of workers.

In other countries, such as Australia and New Zealand, Labor Day is observed on different dates, depending on the state or territory.
